Yes, I know, my grandparents may not have been married; they were from strict Québecois Roman Catholic families and subsequently had seven children, but they could have dodged the clergy/notaries, although I doubt it.
My grandparents, Marie-Rose Mailloux (b. 1896, Coaticook, QC) and A(l)lan Victor McCann (b. 1886, Quyon, Wolf Lake, QC) were married in 1921. I had always assumed they married in Guelph, ON, since that is where they raised their family, but I recently dicovered that they were telling the government of Canada that they were married in Montréal.
This is a clip from their son's WWII service records, in which they state they were married July 13, 1921, in Montréal.
Now, no Drouin enquiries I've made can give me any lead. All marriages in Québec at this time needed to be registered by the clergy. Could anyone give me an idea of where I should look next? I'm heading to Montréal this summer so I can go searching. I'm not expecting anyone to do my legwork here, I am just at a loss and need to know where to look next. Unless, of course, my mother was a bastard, and I'm barking up a nonexistant tree.
