So I did not read through all Canada thread, but on GRO Index a Margery Dorrington birth was registered 1897 Biggleswade 03b 379 mmn Thomason, or has this already been located?

I wonder how much information zetlander has now, as it looks as if they just want John's place of birth? This doesn't look as if it was Cambridgeshire though.

No maiden name given on the GRO site so possibly illegitimate.  Could this be why we can't findJohn in early censuses? Possibly he made up a father on his marriage certificate?

I found later censuses but not 1881 as zetlander states.
