The marriage Bond for Daniel and Elizabeth doesn't say he is 21 it states he is 21 years and upwards so he could be any age over 21. It also states that he is a widower.

I can find two baptisms for Daniel Wildblood
one in Astbury 1721 son of Thomas and Sarah and one in Middlewich in 1738 son of Peter.

We are getting there- and thank you for your patience. there is a burial for sarah wildblood on 13th May 1774- wife of daniel- so you were spot on in as much it seems that Daniel's marriage to Elizabeth Booth was his second marriage. Sarah- youngest child of Daniel and Sarah, baptised in 1773 would not have known her own mother and therefore had a stepmother Elizabeth.
Daughter Ann Wildblood who married James Lees just 9 months after her own stepmother had died in 1790, then followed by sister Sarah marrying Joseph Dean just 2 years later in 1792. It may well have been that, after the death of both their mother and their stepmother, sisters ann and Sarah became very close hence Ann and husband James being the witnesses at Sarah's wedding in 1792.

Looks like Daniel wildblood married a third time- on 17th Oct 1790- to Ann Walton at St giles newcastle Under Lyme. He is shown as a widower and a victualler.

However I cannot find a death for Daniel Wildblood anywhere but his son possibly died in 1820 in Burslem- clsoe to Newcastle Under Lyme so maybe we should be looking there.

Hi - thank you so much for all your help. I think we have probably taken this post as far as we can unless we can find a death for Daniel Wildblood to complete the line- what do you think?

On the baptisms of Daniel and Sarah's children the abode was given as Smallwood. There is a burial in Astbury 13 September 1790 for a Daniel Wildblood abode Smallwood.

There is also a burial in Barthomley 11 April 1790 for an Elizabeth Wildblood wife of Daniel of Barthomley an Inn Keeper.

This raises the question - are we looking at two different Daniels - one in Astbury/Smallwood and one in Barthomley - or are they one and the same? I cannot find a burial for a Daniel in Bathomley or in Newcastle under Lyme.

Yes- it is a bit of a conundrum. I had dismissed the burial of Daniel in 1790 as I have a Daniel wildblood as a witness to his daughter Ann Wildblood to James Lees in December 1790. This is why i wondered if ann and Sarah had a brother called daniel as well as a father called daniel.

It is also compounded by a second and third marriage by Daniel Wildblood as follows:

**1775- 19th Sept- marriage of Daniel Wildblood- widower- to Elizabeth Booth at Astbury- Smallwood

1790- 11th April- burial of Elizabeth Wildblood of Barthomley aged 42- wife of Daniel Wildblood and daughter of John Booth.

This leaves Daniel Wildblood a widower for a second time.

Possible Third marriage of Daniel Wildblood to Ann Walton (born 1769 ie 21!) on 17th Oct 1790
Daniel Wildblood living at Barthomley- Victualler ( he is shown as a shopkeeper in 1786 when his daughter Martha married William Major)

Ann Walton living at Stoke
Marriage took place at St Giles, Newcastle Under Lyme

It really is quite a pickle! Any ideas?

Caroline xxx Thank you so much for your kind perserverance with this one x

As I see it there are 2 baptisms quite close, both under Astbury living at Smallwood:
17.4.1710- Daniel baptised- son of Joseph and Sarah
4.3.1721- Daniel baptised - son of Thomas and Sarah.

So this gives us potentially 2 Daniel wildblood in the time frame.

There are 3 marriages:

22.7.1762- living at Smallwood- to Sarah Baddeley- banns
Burial of Sarah Wildblood on 13th May 1774 Astbury- husband Daniel
19.9.1775- living at Smallwood- to Elisabeth Booth- licence
Burial of Elisabeth Wildblood on 11/4/1790 St Bertoline Barthomley-wife of Daniel
17.10.1790- living at Barthomley- to Ann Walton at St Giles Newcastle Under Lyme

There is only 1 burial that I can find and that is
13/8/1790- at astbury, residing at Smallwood- Daniel Wildblood

It is further complicated by the marriage of Daniel's daughter Ann by Sarah Baddeley to James lees on 21st December 1790, where Daniel wildblood is one of the witneses:

Cheshire OPC records a marriage on 21st December 1790 on Wybunbury Register of
Ann Wildblood to James Lees.
Oath and allegation shows James Lees of Shavington, Parish of Wybunbury Dealer and
Ann was resident in Barthomley. Both single and over 21.
The witnesses were Daniel Wildblood and Eliza Feeney.

So it would seem that one of the Daniels baptised 1710 or 1721 is the one buried in Sept 1790.
The other one married maybe three times and then I cannot trace a later death!

Another factor is that Daniel and Sarah (Baddely) had 5 children all baptised at Astbury living at Smallwood:

John   1764
Martha 1768
Ann 1770
Samuel 1771
Sarah 1773

Martha Wildblood- married William Major yeoman of Barthomley aged 35 years on 9th Aug 1786. William was a bachelor and Martha is declared as 17 years old spinster of Barthomley. The marriage oath is annotated:
William Major – his mark x. Also appeared personally Daniel Wildblood of the Parish of Barthomley aforesaid in the aforesaid County and Diocese of Chester Shopkeeper and being likewise sworn on the Holy Evangelists alleged and made oath as follows: that he is the natural and lawful father of the aforesaid Martha Wildblood and that he is consenting to the aforesaid intended marriage of the said William Major with the said Martha Wildblood.
Signed by Daniel Wildblood on 9th August 1786.

Ann- married James Lees
Cheshire OPC records a marriage on 21st December 1790 on Wybunbury Register of
Ann Wildblood to James Lees.
Oath and allegation shows James Lees of Shavington, Parish of Wybunbury Dealer and
Ann was resident in Barthomley. Both single and over 21.
The witnesses were Daniel Wildblood and Eliza Feeney.

Sarah wildblood married Joseph Dean on 17th October 1792 on the Nantwich register. Joseph Dean was living in Wybunbury and sarah was apparently resident in Nantwich. the only witnesses at this wedding were Sarah's sister Ann and her husband James Lees. This was marriage by licence and James Lees signs the oath with the groom Joseph Dean and states that he is an innkeeper in Nantwich. Sarah would only have been 19 although she states she is over 21- no other family members were present but her father could be the Daniel Wildblood who married at st Giles in Newcastle Under Lyme in 1790. Joseph Dean is proving to be a bit of a rogue-did Sarah run away to marry him?

The question remains- when did Daniel wildblood who fathered 5 children with Sarah Baddeley die? Looking again at the dates of the christening, it would seem more likely that the baptism in 1710 was the burial in 1790. The Daniel baptised in 1721 (son of Thomas and Sarah) is the one who married 3 times and is the father of the 5 children- but why can't I find a record of his death. he was a widow when he married both Elisabeth Booth and ann Walton but would have been 69 on his 3rd marriage.

Any ideas or suggestions please

Caroline
