Gunmakers of Walsall?
« on: Tuesday 24 April 18 20:44 BST (UK) »
Hi
My 6th grt grandfather was George Clarkson, A Gunsmith of Walsall.
He was born 1735 Walsall. Married Susannah Bush 1759 Derby, Occupation given as Gunsmith.
He is living on Rushall Street, Walsall in 1767 listed as Gunsmith.
How would I go about or indeed if there is anyway, In finding if he was self employed as a gunsmith or if he worked for an Armoury?
I cant really see anything on Gunsmithing to do with Walsall.

Darlaston, which is now a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall,  was a well know centre for gunsmiths in the 1750s,  according to http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ly3/

Thank you for this, Ill take a look.
I've also found a piece on the 'Gun Quarter' of Birmingham in the 1760s. My George was baptising Children around this time in Birmingham so a possibility could be a link to one of these workshops.
