Hi Dawn,
Thanks for the advice. I managed to find a tel no for the Wigan Registrar Office but got a recorded message saying the person was unavailable (at 1610). I'll try again tomorrow.

Hi Jon,
Thanks for the info, I didn't quite understand at first but managed to work out what you were saying.
All those people, EXCEPT John Berry, were buried in three public graves K58, K90 and D462.

I have found a burial in Pemberton on 29 Apr 1893 for the Q2 death. I have also definitely ruled out the Q4 deaths I have found burials for both, they were already very unlikely when other criteria was considered.

John (Q3) still remains unaccounted for, I can find no burial for a John Berry in that timeframe. (Using wiganworld and lan-opc.) So it is looking increasingly likely that there is an error and he maybe my Ralph Foster Berry.

Thank you all for your interest in helping to try to solve the puzzle.

Regards,
Malcolm.

I have got all my certs. from Southport so haven't dealt with local ROs. but then I've never had a problem like this before in the 10yrs or so that I've been doing research for FT. So I'm still a bit of a novice.

I'm grateful for any and all advice/info/help I get.

Regards,
Malcolm.

You could try writing to the local register office with all the information you have. It might take longer but you should get a reply eventually. It will enable a member of staff time to investigate possible error. Original certificate should be at local office.
Ralph is sometimes pronounced "Rafe". Could also be Randolph. Latin is Radolphus.
Might he have been indexed under a middle name instead of surname?

Hi Maiden Stone,

Thanks for the advice. I'm still trying to think of the best approach to RO. phone, e-mail, snail etc. ;D

I hadn't thought about middle name mis-indexing, just looked on LancsBMD. Nothing doing. >:(

Malcolm.
