Burt Family
« on: Thursday 26 April 18 19:06 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm looking for my 5th grt grandfather Matthew Burt.
on the 1851/1861 census records he says he is from Radstone, Northamptonshire and born abt 1797/1801.
He marries Charlotte Bishop 30 Sep 1824 Gilmorton, Leicestershire.
I can find no sign of a Matthew Burt in Northamptonshire at the time.
There is an Elizabeth Burt buried 27 Aug 1818 Radstone, Northamptonshire and birthdate given as 1798 so could be a sister but I cant see a bapt for her either.
Matthew dies 1864 aged 63.
Any help appreciated.

From the Northamptonshire Baptism index cd

Matthew   BURT    s   William   Ann   1801   02-Mar

Matthew's in the Radstone BT's as BIRT - and it might have been more helpful if Ancestry had indexed it as such, instead of, er, BIST.  ;D

BIRT is an alternative version of the name often found.

William and Ann (Collins) were married 5 Dec 1787 right over in Wicken

Strange that they haven't got the Radstone parish registers for that period. I have the whole set on microfiche.

Thank you both so much, Was scratching my head for awhile there.
Being put down as Bist is how I probably missed it as well as FindMyPast not even having them listed.
Thanks once again.

Hi
If not too much trouble could you possibly check the cd for a William Burt born abt 1761?
I notice the cd is split in 2 parts.
A John Burt also marries in Wicken May 1782 to Elizabeth Painter but he says he is from Stoney Stratford, Bucks only 3.3 miles from Wicken. My William says of the parish in 1787 so maybe of some relation to the previous John.
I did think my William Burt is possibly the William Burt bapt 25 Jan 1758 Greens Norton, Northamptonshire. Son of John Burt and Catherine but not too sure.
Greens Norton is only 9.4 miles from radstone and 10 miles from wicken forming a triangle between them.
*Edit* Looking on other peoples tree's it seems they have a family all set out for the William bapt 1758 Greens Norton. So it looks like this isnt my William...

Not too sure about Ann though.

There is only one more William, in 1754 in Cold Higham.

You will do better in Buckinghamshire, there are indexes on FindMyPast. Especially since John Burt came from Stony. Some of those parishes are far closer to Wicken than Greens Norton.

Just had a look.
Believe I have found him -
William Burt bapt 7 Jun 1761 North Marston, Bucks. Son of William and Sarah.
North Marston is only 10 miles walking to Wicken.
In 1763 this William and Sarah seem to have moved closer to Wicken and baptise a Matthew Burt in Thornborough (abt 5 miles from wicken).
My William has 3 children called Matthew, Sarah and William so looks a good fit.
