Walter RIDDLE (1829-?)
« on: Friday 27 April 18 10:11 BST (UK) »
I am trying to ascertain what happened to Walter RIDDLE. He was probably born in 1829, as he was baptised on 12 July 1829 at Chiddingfold in Surrey. His parents were William and Harriet RIDDLE.

In the 1841 census, he was living with his parents aged 12 in Chiddingfold. By the 1851 census, aged 21, he had moved out of the family home and working as an agricultural labourer, lodging with the PAGE family in Ramsnest Road, Chiddingfold.

After this I can find no record of him. Initially I thought that he had joined the army, as there is a Walter RIDDLE from Guildford who joined the Grenadier Guards. But it turns out that this William RIDDLE was a little younger and born in Shene. I now know that this is the wrong person as I can trace him back to his birth and the 1841/1851 censuses.

So the question is what happened to Walter after 1851?

Yes, I can account - with some small gaps - for all of the rest of the family, including his parents and siblings. The only real problem other than Walter, is where some of them are buried. Most of the them lived out their lives in the Chiddingfold/Guildford area.

I don't think it's him after all, that one was from Scotland

I am still finding it impossible to make any progress on the whereabouts of Walter post the 1851 census. As far as I am aware the details in the first thread remain true.

If it helps - and I don't think it will - there is another short and unfortunately not very productive thread on Walter under my name.

I would welcome some fresh eyes on the subject.
