HMS Vanguard 1917 Crew Photos
« on: Friday 27 April 18 17:34 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I am working on a project to find a photograph of every crew member killed aboard HMS Vanguard when she tragically exploded in 1917.

I have currently found nearly 25% of the crew (204 images out of 843 men listed).  Does anyone have a relative that was onboard?  I am working with the dive team who surveyed the wreck last year to put the photos and crew details into a forthcoming book.

It would be great to hear from you.

Many thanks, Wendy

 Welcome Wendy
On our memorial in Hockley Essex we have a Benjamin Bundick who died on board the H.M.S. Vanguard, service number K 2943 a stoker born 9th October 1889 in Rochford.
Good luck with the research

Hi, I have just come across a man in my family tree who died on HMS Vanguard in 1917.  His name is James William John Wraight and he was a 1st Class Stoker.  I'd be interested to know if you have any more details.
Thanks
Gemma

Welcome Gemma,

On Naval history there's  details of the men who died, The Sphere 25th July 1917 has an article on the The Explosion on H.M.S. Vanguard, and his service record you can find on any of the Genealogy sites.

Hi Gemma, as mentioned, information about his is available on FindMyPast or Ancestry.  I have not as yet found a photograph of him.
