Hi,

As there are so many William and James TAYLORs about, can you please give us the first definite info you have about your Gt Gt grandfather James. Who did he marry? His marriage cert. or a census with his family and children would be really helpful  :)

Hopefully we will be able to find him then  :)

Regards,
Daisy

Hi Daisy
My Gt grandfather James b 1860 in Warrington married Louisa Granger in 1887 at St James Church, Norton Canes. His children Elsie b 1888, Henrietta (Daisy) b 1889, James (my grandfather)b 1891and Florence(Doll) b 1894. James was on 1861 census in Brierly Hill. I'm trying to find his mother's maiden name. His father William was b 1835 in Warrington as was his mother.
Thanks
Wendy

Can you please confirm that this is who you think is the family for your James?

If so then father William is a glass cutter, and by 1871 Sarah is a widow.

When James married Louise, what was his father's occupation?

All you need to do to find the births of William and Sarah's children is to look in the correct registration districts and make a note of possible mother's maiden names until you find a common name for all of the children.  The only matches that I can see is with the mother's maiden surname as DUNN.

It is likely that they married in 1855 in Manchester as the first two children were born there.

They are both aged 21 and William is a glass maker.  His father is William TAYLOR, a joiner, her father is Dennis DUNN a weaver.

This may be William's death registered in the June quarter 1870.

TAYLOR, WILLIAM
aged 36
GRO Reference: 1870  J Quarter in STOURBRIDGE  Volume 06C  Page 124

In which case Emily was not his child as her birth was registered in the December quarter 1871.

It is important that you purchase birth certificates or find baptisms to confirm names, addresses and father's occupation.

Hi Dundee
Yes this is my Taylor family. On James marriage certificate his father is a glass cutter but doesn't say he is deceased.
Yes I looked on gro for births and i noticed the name Dunn, I will go back to the Manchester births and double check those again.
I have I admit been looking at Warrington for the births and the marriage.
There are a lot of William Taylor's in Brierley Hill too because I did send for birth certificate for Emily registered in stourbridge and it was the wrong Emily.
Thank you for your help will go back and look again.
Wendy

Hi Dundee
Yes Dunn seems to be the name quoted for all of the children so I will send for a birth certificate of one of them. Then I will send for marriage certificate.
Thanks
Wendy

Hi Dundee
I now have James Taylor's birth certificate and his mother is Sarah Dunn his father William Taylor who is a glass cutter so that ties in with what I know about William. He was born at what looks like 2 Buller St, Manchester. I now have to find out more about Sarah's family. I have found 2 Sarah Dunns both with father's called Dennis and both from Ireland, so need to investigate this. I am going to also send for Emily's to see if her father is William.
Thanks for the help
Wendy

Struggling with Sarah Dunn born 1834/36 Manchester. Father Dennis not sure of her mothers name. Married William Taylor 1855. Dennis looks like he was born in Ireland. On  1841 census there is a Dennis Dunn wife Catherine and on 1851 wife Mary Ann. I also can't find a birth record for Sarah.
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you
Wendy
