I sure hope Leon and Mabel had a wonderful life together...Sounds like he took the child in as his own:)

    ... by "he" -- do you mean Mabel's husband, Stanley Frank TRASK.   

If you look at the (transcribed) inscription on the of Mabel TRASK's headstone which I posted earlier, you will see that her son was referred to as "Harold" ( though his birth name was Harold Leon.)

Mabel Beatrice ADAMS :

No birth found in New Zealand.

I do suspect though that she may have been the Mabel B. ADAMS - aged 3 months who arrived in Wellington with her parents and a sibling, per the ship "Douglas" in September 1873.

Lu - I input all this into my Ancestry and, based on hits from that I would say you are correct re Mabel coming to NZ.  Looks like she was from the Manchester UK area.

wow wow and wow, I never expected to know who my grandfather was. During my whole life no one even talked about the idea of Harold Adams (my father) having a real father. FYI, Harold got married after Evelyn (Terry's mother) died and had 4 more children (plus 4 to them). Amazing what a random google search will do. Thanks for the research :-)

Hey Lu!!! Lovely to connect again. 

I wanted to tell you that, thanks to all the wonderful work and assistance provided by this NZ group, I was contacted last year by one of Mabel Adams descendants and I was able to give them a full blown history about a family line they knew nothing at all about --including the very interesting Leon Reece Gould:)

I can't tell you how thrilled I was to be able to offer that historical knowledge to their family... and it was due in very large part to the expertise and support of this amazing Kiwi Board  

So thanks again!!!!!!!!

p.s. and yes I am back searching for Lionel Augustus Gould...but I think it is on a different thread, so will find it and update with info I have to date.
