You won't find births recorded before Civil Registration started in 1837 - so, you are looking for a baptism.

When,on a marriage entry, it says "of Loversall" - that refers to where he was living at the time the banns were called. It doesn't refer to a place of birth. ;D

A number of trees on An...y note his birth as 1767 and death as Feb 1737 but no records to prove that and I have tried various sites. Margaret died in 1841 apparently.

Thanks,
I meant Baptism - he married Margaret Wright in 1791 and died in 1837. I seem to remember being told some records for Loversall had been burnt in the Parish chest by some thieves who broke in and burnt all the records. Apparently the Bishops Transcripts should have the details.
Does anyone know of any other way of tracing ancestors back this far (1700,s) - there is often little information on marriage entries.  Makes life very difficult.

Genuki confirms that the parish registers were burnt by thieves, and that the BTs are the only source of information.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thank you - I suppose the only option is Doncaster Archives!

The BTs are available on FindMyPast, but I cannot see any baptisms/marriages or burials at Loversall for any period.  Loversall does not appear in the list of parishes.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
