Going abroad while still serving
« on: Sunday 29 April 18 14:28 BST (UK) »
I have a man who seems to have gone overseas while still signed up, was this allowed.

In 1908  he joined the Wessex Divisional Engineers . / Devon and Somerset R E volunteers. He was  discharged on 27 April  1911 after 3 years at Bath.

Departure Date: 7 Mar 1911 Departure: Liverpool, Destination Boston, USA

He was a member of a volunteer unit who, unless called out to serve full time under arms, had to attend a specified number of drills during the year and the annual inspection and meanwhile continued their civilian life.  Haven't found anything specific saying they couldn't go overseas. The month between departure and discharge may simply have been the admin catching up.

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
