Finding half brother
« on: Monday 30 April 18 01:46 BST (UK) »
I'm searching for my half brother. I only have his father's information. He once found my dad. He sent a letter to our house but my mom threw it away. All I know is that he was born in New York most likely the buffalo area. His birth year is unknown. My guess would be anywhere from 1949 to 1970. Any suggestions on how to go about conducting a search.

If you don't have a name, then your options for searching may be limited.  Such recent birth records aren't available to the public in NY state.  If he might have your father's surname and it's an unusual one, then you might try doing a Google search or checking sites like www.whitepages.com or www.switchboard.com.

Otherwise, autosomal DNA testing through a site like Ancestry.com or 23andMe might be your best option.  Ancestry currently has the largest database, so that would be my recommendation.  They frequently have sales - most recently, I saw one for $59.
