Looking for Uncle Bill
« on: Monday 30 April 18 11:14 BST (UK) »
Hi
Someone has asked me to look for their Uncle Bill Davis .
Difficult name and I'm not having a lot of luck.
William Davis was born Sep qtr 1921 in Salford  s of John Davis and Jane Conway .
By 1939 his dad is dead and his mother is living with Albert Jones her new husband.
There are several entries blacked out and William  could be one.
He was a pilot in World War 2 so may already have signed up.
He had two children .One a son went on to be a teacher in Cyprus.
He died sometime after 1971.

That's all she knows.Any ideas?

Has she any idea of his wife's name? Or if she knows the names of the children, you might be able to find their births and get her maiden name that way, so at least you will know where he was on those dates. They may still be alive, so obviously can't be mentioned here.

Hi
No no idea of the wife's name or the children's .
Just that one was a boy who was a teacher.

I can trace some of the possible wives -there's a choice of 6 within Gt Manchester.
There is only one with two children -Margaret Jarnell.

But no sign of him on the 1939 so the one possible death for William Anthony Davis in 1985 in Manchester may or may not be him.

Mother Jane seems to have died in Levenshulme in 1962 but in 1939 the main family are in Salford.
Dad John died in 1930's .
I can't see the youngest sister Josephine either ,but she may still be alive somewhere so can't post details.

As William does not have a middle name at birth I would guess William Anthony is not the one you want.

Does your friend know definitely that Josephine survived childhood as there is a death in Weaste (Salford district) of a Josephine aged 6 months burial 3 October 1928

Hi
Yes as I said he had two kids
So he must have lived to be an adult. He died sometime after 1971.

If you had his birth cert and therefore an exact DOB,finding him in 1939 and on the death indexes would be easier.

If he died before 1991 his records in 1939 should have been updated to show him deceased.
Of course the blanked out person on the register may not be Bill,he might have already been away fighting in the war?

Hi
I showed her the possible marriages and she thinks it's the one to Margaret Jarnell whose birth  was registered as Peggy in Chorlton in Mar qtr 1921.
So their last child was in Barton in 1962.
Which still gets me nowhere as I still can't see a death for either of them.
Anyway thanks for your help, somethings just aren't mean't to be cracked.

It could be possible that their deaths are so recent that they are not on line anywhere.
