England and Wales BMD indexes 1837-2005 on Ancestry.co.uk
« on: Tuesday 01 May 18 19:17 BST (UK) »
I found the following record on Somerset Church of England Baptisms 1813-1914  -
Charles Mandrell baptised 4 Feb 1849 parents James and Elizabeth at Timsbury Somerset.
I am unable to find a birth record on the England and Wales BMD indexes 1837-2005.

I plan to send off to GRO for this birth record but I do not have the volume and page numbers

The surname is normally spelled Maundrill

Any suggestions please

Tom

If you look on GRO under the district and mother's name, there's a James that'd be the right age.
It's possible they formally registered him with the name James - but he was brought up with them calling him Charles in real life.

Hi Stanley

The Charles I'm looking for has 8 siblings including Joseph 1845, James 1847, Charles 1849, Ellen 1851, Thomas 1853 - etc etc.  So the James you see on GRO is Charles older brother and I already have this record.

Do you know his mothers maiden name?  If so - you can use the online GRO search to check for a birth reg.

www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

He may have been born earlier than 1849 if he was baptised February

Failure to register a birth only became a fineable offence in 1874/75 so there are many unregistered births prior to that date
