What happened to Donald Colquhoun
« on: Tuesday 01 May 18 19:25 BST (UK) »
Looking for information on Donald Colquhoun born in 1826 to Angus Colquhoun and Katherine McIntyre in Cardross.  All other siblings born in Glasgow, and Donald married Mary Peden in 1852 in Glasgow, so assuming he grew up in Glasgow.  He had a daughter, Elizabeth, born in 1852 also in Glasgow.  His wife Mary died in 1853 in Glasgow, and daughter shows up in the 1861 census living with maternal grandparents.  I have found no other information on Donald.  Any additional information regarding Donald Colquhoun or his daughter, Elizabeth Colquhoun is appreciated.

Scotlands People has 6 marriages for an Elizabeth Colquhoun between 1871-1881 - have you checked to see if she is one of them?

What was Donald's occupation on the 1851 or (if shown) on the 1852 marriage cert entry?

He was a bookbinder.  I looked at him many years ago as a possible for my Colquhoun's but it wasn't the Donald I was seeking.  I have nothing more on him.

Don

I just checked the BNewspaper Archive only his wife is listed and see nothing in the census.  There was a Donald who emigrated to Australia 1855-56 age 30.

I have turned off all email notifications, thank you.

I did check the immigration to Australia.  This is not the same Donald. It shows his father as Duncan and that he was from Argyll.

Have you found a marriage for Elizabeth which should give her father's status (deceased) if he had died prior to her marriage which would at least give you a window of search?

If deceased then he too possibly died pre 1855 & not recorded?

Or...did he remarry?

Just wondering if this one has been checked?

COLQUHOUN DONALD 62 (b c 1831)
1893
523/ 6 Kilmore and Kilbride (Argyll)

He was born in Argyll i.e. may have gone to relatives after his wife died?

Depending on who registered the death, his age may purely have been a rough guess?

Another possible?

COLQUHOUN DANIEL 51 (b c 1824)
1875
501/ 145 Old or West Kilpatrick

Not too far from Glasgow but Daniel/Donald seems to have been interchangeable whether by accents or whatever else I don't know but I've come across 'Donald's aka Daniel in previous research.

Again his age is out a tad but aren't most deaths back then.
