James Carr, Liverpool
« on: Tuesday 01 May 18 21:29 BST (UK) »
My great grandfather Christopher Carr in the Irish Census of 1911  lists his place of birth as Liverpool. I know from his marriage certificate that his parents were James Carr and Ellen Carroll. I estimate his birth year as 1850.
I have researched his family to the present day from his first marriage to Elizabeth McGuinness in 1872 Ballybrack, Co Dublin.
I am unsure of how to track his family in Liverpool.
I have found a marriage of James Carr to Ellen Carroll in Dún Laoghaire in February 1839 and the birth of a son Thomas in Glenageary Ireland in December 1839.
No idea when they went to England but as James was listed as Mariner he probably moved back and forth Ireland to England (my guess).

In January 2006 a rootschatter Carole W while helping someone else trace a Carr family gave these details,
1851 census - 8 Latimer St Liverpool

James Carr 33 Ireland - Labourer
Ellen 29 Ireland
Thomas 11 Ireland
James 9 Liverpool
John 4 Liverpool
Christopher 6 weeks or 6 months Liverpool.
I think this might be the family I am seeking!

Where do I go from here.
Did Thomas stay on in Liverpool?
What became of James and John?

All suggestions appreciated. I am a total novice with English records!!

There's another CARR baptism at St Anthony's with parents James and Ellen.

Pat. CARR -Birth Date 22 May 1853
Baptism Date:   5 Jun 1853

They don't seem to be too great at registering their children's births but:

GRO Birth Index:
CARR, PATRICK       mmnCARROLL
 1853  D Quarter in LIVERPOOL  Volume 08B  Page 5

It's a little late and may just be a coincidence. :-\

2006 - What a blast from the past  ;D

His godfather was a Christopher Morrison and his godmother Harriet (surname indecipherable)

No trace in 1861 so presumably were back in Ireland by then

After a long absence i am just getting back to this today. Thank you Maureen and CaroleW for your replies in May 2018. I missed them as I changed computers and the unimaginable happened. I lost my complete family research!
But, this lockdown has been a godsend in some ways.
Various Carr family members have been researching bits of the Carr history and now through the wonderful rootschat we are in contact and they have filled in a lot of the blanks.
My gt. grandfather Christopher did settle in Ireland. I am now in touch with John Carr's 1842 and Patrick Carr's 1853 extended family and we are getting more pieces of the jigsaw puzzle together. How would we have managed without the help of rootschat!
