Looking for David Callaghan.
« on: Thursday 03 May 18 10:38 BST (UK) »
Hi
Looking for a record concerning the birth of David Callaghan/Callahan but ive had no luck so far.

In 1841 he is living with his brother James and James's family in Loughborough, Leic and he is listed born abt 1811 and birthplace as Ireland.
James and family also list as born in Ireland.

In 1846 he marries Frances Hutchinson in Loughborough, Leic.

On the 1851 census his birthdate is abt 1815 and birthplace has changed to Manchester, Lancashire
On the 1861 census his birthdate is abt 1811 and birthplace as Manchester, Lancashire
On the 1871 census his birthdate is abt 1810 and birthplace as Manchester, Lancashire.
On his burial in 1872 his birthdate is abt 1802.

On his marriage cert he gives his father as 'James Callaghan (Deceased) and lists his fathers occupation as Soldier.

I cant see no record for a David anywhere, Any help appreciated.

Manchester Catholic records show a baptism of David Callaghan 1810.
Unfortunately there is no link to a father’s name.

Thank you for this, It seems only way to view transcript is to buy the cd. Looks like ill have to go down that route.

I should probably see if any regiments were stationed around Manchester at the time and see if any James Callaghans link.

Just had a look on the Manchester RC site you link and a James Callaghan has baptised a Son John in 1814 St Chad and a Jane in 1820 St Chad. Could be the father for David aswell.
Theres only one other bapt for a Callaghan at the time and the father is a Francis Callaghan.
I notice David also names two of his children John and Jane possible naming after siblings. As David also names a daughter Celia after possibly his brother James's Daughter and my 4th grt grandmother plus he names a son James aswell.

That’s good. I tried with variations but not as good as you  :)

There were barracks at Hulme, Manchester but there were closer Catholic Churches.
