Marriage Lookup Help
« on: Friday 04 May 18 19:38 BST (UK) »
Hello! A bit of help would be appreciated, cause I'm at a dead end. I'm looking for a marriage of a Johanna/Anna Grant - Joseph J Ormond 1928-1930. Both came to America on the same ship in 1928, and had a daughter in 1929. Family is on the 1930 and 1940 Census in New York.
Johanna was born 1896 Moyglass, Co. Tipperary, Ireland and from census records, it seems Joseph was born in England.
I know all of Johanna's details before she left Ireland, and its just the marriage I am hunting for at the moment.

Thank you
The surnames, which I am interested in are; Maternal side: Ryan, Kevin, Grant, Grady, Gleeson, Walsh, Dwyer, Paternal side: O' Dwyer, Woodlock, Rochford & Britton - all in Tipperary; and Kelly and Hoynes in Laois.

Ryan, Campbell, Luttrell, Grant, Grahame, Bainbridge and Brown in Queensland, Australia

Tighe in Victoria, Australia.

Grant in Philadelphia, Sullivan and Penny in New York; and Britton in Connecticut

I'm a bit confused about some of the details.

For reference-
1930 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X4K1-TM5

1940 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KQG1-D65

The 1930 census states Joseph immigrated in 1924 and Johanna/Anna in 1928. Also listed is a John Mcguire, brother-in-law(?)  who immigrated in 1929. The census also states Joseph & Hannah have been married one year (1929).

Here is Johanna's immigration in 1928. There is no Joseph Ormond on that ship. She is going an Aunt Mrs. Rogers.

Here is John Mcguire's immigration in 1929. He is going to an Uncle Cousin Joseph Ormond.

There is a Joseph Ormond on that ship.  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-G5WX-FCF?i=141&cc=1923888  The 2nd page says he was previously in the US 5 1/2 years until June, so that fits more with an earlier first arrival.

This seems to be Joseph's first arrival in 1923 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JN7S-X3N  Like the later passenger list, it mentions a Slattery cousin in Thurles, Ireland.

Based on the manifest markings, it looks like he sought naturalization in New York in 1936.  Those records could mention his marriage to his wife.

I wonder if this is Joseph's WWII draft registration card?  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F36M-8ZC  The address is in Brooklyn, but the wife is Anna and he works at the same place that he lives, which may fit with the occupation of superintendent in the earlier census record.

If that's him, I found him on a naturalization index with the same address.  His date of order of admission was 3 Feb. 1942, and his petition # was 313637.  Unfortunately, I'm not finding the actual naturalization records so far.

I have Joseph coming into America in 1928, 30 October..and the address given is the same one as Johanna is going to in 1928 also. The name she was going to on the record she did not travel was Mrs. James Connolly of 407 West 47th Street. However, that was the one before going to her aunt, Mrs. Rogers. Both are down as single on the immigration record.

John McGuire was actually Johanna's nephew, and I've traced him a good bit in America.

Cheers  ;D
