Glasgow photo- date?
« on: Friday 04 May 18 22:34 BST (UK) »
Old photo in family album of unknown family taken in Glasgow. Have a few possible ideas but date for photo would help narrow down the possibilities. Many thanks

I would say this was late 1880s possibly just into the 1890s.

I was thinking early 1880s as I think the mother has pleated skirt - a more or less identical dress here for 1882

Missed seeing the replies to the thread until now so apologies and a belated thank you. The date is about what my guess would have been but unfortunately doesn't help figure out who the family could be- if it is indeed my mother-in-law's connection. Lots of them went to Glasgow area but the ages and sexes of their children don't fit the ones in the photo. Will keep searching...  :)

Googling the photographers name and 'Glasgow' turned up the following info:

A. Dunbar was active at the 4 Bellgrove St. address from about 1889 - 1898. He had another studio at 25, Jamaica St. from 1896 onwards and gave up the Bellgrove St. studio in 1898. In the period 1896-1898 both studio addresses were printed.

Since only one address is printed on this photo, it's likely that it's  in the range 1889-1896.

The wee girl on the left looks as though she is being supported to stand up by her father. Her right leg looks to be thinner than the other.  The hands are unusual as well.  The other thought, fleeting, was that this might be an after death photo of the girl. Some thing unusual to my eye about her.

Belated thanks for the last comments (I was offline for a few weeks and still catching up with replies). The comments re: little girl are most interesting and may help to eventually identify this family group.
