Where to start.....Sydeny James Wilson
« on: Saturday 05 May 18 09:52 BST (UK) »
I Have found, much to my surprise that the youngest child of William Wilson and Barbara Crawford from County Durham left for New York in 1911.  He was accompanied by his brother-in-law john Watson.  They were sponserd by his brother-in-law Clement Minto Bird .
John left behind a wife, who in 1916 remarried - widowed.
I haven't researched American records before so dont really know where to start,

any help appreciated.
Regards Elizabeth

Thank you Sandra, After burning a bit of midnight oil - I think John Watson ( who was in the company of Sydney James Wilson) died in West Virginia in 1914 and is buried at Spring Hill Cemetery - find a grave memorial 65495798.  I am assuming that he went to the area where the Birds were living after arriving in New York.  John married Edith - Minto Clemont Birds wife's sister.  I also think that Sydney would go with him.  Sorry that this sounds a bit confusing, but would there be any other record do you think locally at the time of John's death to give a bit more information.?
Thank you for your help so far it has answered a few questions for me.
