Worlds End, Barony, Glasgow
« on: Saturday 05 May 18 14:46 BST (UK) »
Could anyone please give me an idea where Worlds End Barony was (or is?) . I am tracing the homes of my gg grandfather who lived at number 23 World's End in 1851. I have tried looking at some old maps but my knowledge of the geography of Glasgow is so poor that I am getting  nowhere. Any help gratefully received!!  Barbara

Barbara, got to head out or I would help in further searches.

This here gives you some further details on where it was in the Finnieston area of Glasgow https://scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/digital-volumes/ordnance-survey-name-books/lanarkshire-os-name-books-1858-1861/lanarkshire-volume-32/70

There's a "World's End, Finnieston" to the west of the map (look for "Hydepark Foundry")

I haven't looked at the link provided by Monica but it looks to have been a tenement block (1855) with 13 Tenants?

Oh that's interesting. How did you find this information?  It's always good to find new sources or ways to use old ones. Barbara

Barbara,

My apologies, my info. was from the VRs (Valuation Rolls) on SP (scotlandspeople)...

GOODWIN ROBERT Proprietor
HOUSE 23 WORLDS END, BARONY
1855
VR010200008-

Using 23 Worlds End in the 'Place' option (bottom on left side), leaving everything else blank will bring up the list of Tenants

I used 1855 as it was closest to your 1851 census but not knowing the name of your ancestor I couldn't tell if he was there?

I work in Finnieston and coincidentally have relatives in 1851 in Worlds end. There is nothing left of it today.

Thank you very much everyone.  I looked up the valuation rolls  in World's End for my George Mcwatt but he had moved on . So I looked in 24 Grace St which is the next address I have and he had already moved there by 1855. So many thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
