Top one looks like John but the other more like Colm

How about..... McUON. As in McKeown   - if he was making a nom de plume....
I can’t see R’uon as a name anywhere in a quick google nor McUON either lol

Do you have any idea what it is supposed to say?

What kind of paintings are they, if I may be so bold?  ;)

It is indeed etching print of Colosseum, the other is of Arch of Constantine

Can you tell us anything about the date or style? (Or upload the whole images?)

And do you know where they were bought - ie in Rome, which might suggest an Italian artist, or in the UK, so possibly by someone who had merely visited Rome?
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

I agree this would help as the name looks to be 'foreign' with an apostrophe which is similar to Scottish/Irish M' or O' but this looks to have a surname initial 'R' although I'm unsure?

I also thought "foreign" due to the surname, but possibly also the way the first letter of the first name is formed. It does look like a Jo at the start, but looking again, I am not not sure, hence wondering if the forename is a non English name which just looks like John.

I think knowing the era of the etchings (are they dated?) might help.

Even if you work out the name of the artist, he may have been an amateur and there may be nothing to be found about him on the internet or elsewhere.

I'm wondering if the third letter of the surname is "g", perhaps R'ugren or R'ugrev

Why not scan the etching and do a google image search on it?  That way, if it's by a well-known artist, a digital image might already exist, so google will tell you what it is.
