There is an appeal in my local newspaper (News Guardian) this week for more information on the above named person. (This paper runs very interesting historical articles each week under the heading of 'Looking Back'.)
You may know more about William or perhaps you are a descendant who could help. Information can be sent to the North Shields local studies. There is an email but I would not be allowed to post on main board.
Article (with headshot) photo relates:
William was born at Gilling, Yorkshire.
He worked for Dale Young Nelson & Co
Then York City and County Banking Co branch of Newcastle
He was held to be a 'founder' of Whitley Bay.
He married Ann Isabella Naters of Cullercoats in 1871.I
He was a member of Whitley Bay Board of health
He was a county councillor and magistrate and worked in several charities.
He joined the volunteer force of the Tynemiuth Royal Garrison Artillery, retaining the title of Major on retirement in 1904
If you have more details please send to the library. Thank you
