Robert Scott -Tweed Manufacturer Dumfries
« on: Sunday 06 May 18 10:58 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace the Manchester connections of the above and hope that someone can help. Robert Scott( 1781?-1861) married Jean Lindsay In Dumfries in 1804. the wedding details say that he came from Manchester and that his wife to be was the daughter of Manchester Weaver.

A book about  the Scotts mentions that Robert's father was  Master Gardener but does not mention any other family members. I note that there was a firm in Manchester William Scott (Cotton Spinners) at 51 Hart Street, Manchester and also a William Lindsay at 22 Dale Street Manchester at the early 19th century and wonder if there was any connection with Robert Scott and his wife.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you got his death certificate I have seen posts about Robert before yet census states he was born in Scotland would his death certificate and that of his wife give more information
the only link I have seen is that his son Walter went to Manchester

If he died in 1861 his death cert should show both his parents names plus mothers maiden name - assuming that info was known to whoever reported his death

Same for Jean Lindsay if she died post- 1855

A small farm house and and outhouses in good repair, with an orchard and small farm of land attached (Graystone flat )

Mount pleasant is the next cottage occupied by George Brown gardener to Mr West of Graystone Flat
