I may have found a bigamist on my tree & need help
« on: Sunday 06 May 18 11:01 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can spare the time to do a search for me as I can't get to the Birmingham library.

On free bmd I found a marriage for a Ernest George Heeks & Jane Fleet JUN quarter 1908 Aston district & they are on the 1911 census Ernest born Little Comberton & Jane born Tipton.

I also have a marriage for Ernest George Heeks to Christina Oakley on 13FEB1909 at Elmley Castle
Groom from Little Comberton Bride from Elmley Castle both fathers names were William.

Little Comberton & Elmley Castle are both in Worcestershire

I will be grateful if anyone can help me out with this problem

All the very best

Phil

Hi Phil,
Have you looked for a second Ernest George Heeks in the 1911 census? And have you looked at births on FreeBMD?

Edit: I think Bumblebee has solved it.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

The GRO 1908 entry in Pershore RD shows Ernest George's surname as either Heeke or Hecks.

both fathers names were William.

One father was James, one was William. One Ernest George Heeks was born in 1881 and married Jane Fleet (who is named in his army file), the other was born in 1886 and married Christina Oakley.

There is a baptism of Raymond Ernest George HECKS, son of Ernest George and Christina Elsie - St James, Bath.  Address is 5 Shornbank Place, and EG is a Commercial Traveller.  REGH born 1 February and baptised 18 April 1909.

GRO facility, however shows mmn as Neate, but there is also a note that it is an "Occasional Copy A" and from another thread on RootsChat it would appear that that means that an alteration was made to the registration.

There are two instances of Ernest George Heeks being born in the Pershore RD

1881 - mmn = Beard
1886 - mmn = Collins

Marriages - Pershore RD

December quarter 1868 - William Heeks and Mary Alice Collins appear on the same page
December quarter 1875 - James Hecks and Edith Beard appear on the same page (and I was one of the transcribers of that page, for FreeBMD  :-[ )

Let's see if I can get this right  :o

1841 - Little Comberton - HO107/1204/13 folio 3 page 13

William Heeks - 45 - Sawyer
Elizabeth - 40
Fred - 20
Martin - 15
Edith - 13
Harcourt - 10
Alfred 9
William - 7 months

William born 1840 (mmn = Sandal)
Martin marries Charlotte Tinson in 1846 and James is born 1849 (mmn = Tinson)

And so William (1840) is uncle to James (1849).  And that makes Ernest George (1881, father = William) the uncle second cousin of (Ernest George (1886, father = James, son of Martin).

And I thought my Archbell clan was complicated  ::)

Hi gang

Thank you all so very much & my special thanks go to Bumble as I didn't know that image was on ancestry but will check it out when I get back to Weston as it sounds very promising indeed :).

I looked through the records I have with me & found another Ernest George Heeks baptised at
Little Comberton so I may not have a bigamist in my tree after all.

Once again I thank you all for your help

All the very best
