William Scott from Hamilton Lanarkshire

I am trying to trace William Scott, son of Archibald Scott and Helen Baillie. He was born 1846-47 (he was 4 in the 1851 census) in Hamilton, Lanarkshire. It seems that both his parents died not long after he was born. At the time of the 1851 census, he and sister Ann, were living with their auntie Grace Baillie. He seems to have disappeared after that.

I'm hoping that somebody might know something of him, or indeed any the Scott family from Hamilton.

Don't know if this is the correct one.  I have found a William Scott in the 1861 census.  Born 1847 in Hamilton, Lanark.  Occupation shoemaker.  He is a boarder with the Dalziel family living at Caledonian Road, Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire

Registration district is Cambusnethan.

I've found a baptism for one of the children on the census record:-

Helen Dalziel born on 6 April 1857 in Cambusnethan, Lanark.  Parents are Robert Dalziel and Christina Scott

So could Christina be a relative of William's?

Christina was born in 1838 in Hamilton.

Thanks very much for that. I wasn't able to find that record. At least I know that he was still alive in 1861.

In answer to your question, Christina was William's sister. She eventually died in Boston, Massachusetts in 1914.

Robert and Christina now have six children.

Thanks once again. His sister went to the USA in 1880, so he would have had to move out when she left.

I found a William Scott in 1881 but the birth year was 1849 although birthplace is Hamilton, Lanark.

Living here: Saffron Place, 5, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland with a wife called Agnes (1849) and children James N (1875), William N G (1876), John (1878) and Alexander (1880).
