I also agree with HD's ...Miscondt in being in a public house...

Not sure what immediately precedes it, though. Could it be Late and ... (implying lateness in returning)?

Looking again, I now think it's a place - Oatlands.

Agreed, and Oatlands was the location of a Police Court.

Records for Petty Sessions at Oatlands can be found on Family Search for free (but must register).

ADDED:

Unfortunately the Oatlands Petty Sessions records have a gap between 1848 and 1852.

My first thought was MISCRIENT in  being in a public house.

Looking at the whole image the same word reads more clearly as miscrient further down the page.
CHOULES All ,  COKER Harwich Essex & Rochester Kent
COLE Gt. Oakley, & Lt. Oakley, Essex.
DUNCAN Kent
EVERITT Colchester,  Dovercourt & Harwich Essex
GULLIVER/GULLOFER Fifehead Magdalen Dorset
HORSCROFT Kent.
KING Sturminster Newton, Dorset. MONK Odiham Ham.
SCOTT Wrabness, Essex
WILKINS Stour Provost, Dorset.
WICKHAM All in North Essex.
WICKHAM Medway Towns, Kent from 1880
WICKHAM, Ipswich, Suffolk.

I spent quite a while looking at this yesterday, including assessing my first instinct, which was Miscreant.

Attached are four images.  Two are from the record of James Maginally (four images earlier in the same register) and two are from later in the record of Edward Millen.  Two hands are involved.

All are the same word - Miscondt

WOW! Thank you all for your help with this.  Especially matthewj64 for going above and beyond and looking at the petty sessions info.

Much appreciated!

Very best wishes,
