School House Ampleforth
« on: Wednesday 09 May 18 11:20 BST (UK) »
Hi.
I think I may have found a clue to my Smiths from Ampleforth and would really appreciate some help and advice. I got the marriage certificate for Isaac Wright (Brickmaker) and Sarah Smith, they were married in the Parish School Room in Ampleforth in 1868 on the 20th of January. I have struggled to work out which Smith family is Sarah's, her father was a brick maker called John Smith!
I have just had some help deciphering Sarah's occupation on the certificate and she was the school mistress so there must be some way I can find out more about her through that - or at least I hope so.
Does anyone know about any records for the school/education dept?
I am feeling a bit hopeful all of a sudden.
Thanks Alison

Hi,

Who were the witnesses as they may help?

Have you seen this 1851 which could be Sarah? After marriage she is recorded as being born in Helperby, therefore the below census could be a possibilty.

John Smith   51 Bricklayer
Ann Smith   45
Mary Ann Haw Smith   23
William Smith   19
Sarah Smith   9 b. Helperby, Yorkshire
Eliza Smith   2
