Help with New York State baptisms/marriages?
« on: Wednesday 09 May 18 19:41 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am completely out of my depth here because I have 0 American ancestors - just a few that started out in the States and moved later to Canada.

I am trying to find the following people, who I know lived in Russia, Herkimer, NY from 1822 on:

-Marriage of John Campbell, who would have married his wife Catherine or Katie around 1825-1827. Don't know her maiden name but it may have been Leitch, Campbell, or McArthur. She was born in Argyllshire in about 1799.
-Baptism of John and Catherine's son Duncan Campbell in 1828

The couple moved to Southwold in Elgin, ON, Canada by the time their son John was born in 1831/2, along with family. John Sr. had originally come to New York with his parents, Peter and Nancy Campbell, and several siblings. Peter/Nancy also ended up moving to Canada in 1830.

I know the family lived at Moon Farm in Russia.

Any assistance in finding vital events records for this family is appreciated - or advice as to whether they would even exist!

New York state didn't start vital registration until 1881, so it's a bit hit or miss before then.
