Anything to find a date of birth or death
« on: Thursday 10 May 18 08:20 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am struggling to establish either a date of birth or death for this man. He is called Alfred King, joined up before war as he was married 1935 as a Lance Bombadier, RA aged 22.  Sadly there are too many with this name born around 1913 to get his birth cert. I know he was awarded MBE in 1955. His service number is 815666. I have details of a couple of medals, 1949 Gen Serv Medal with clasp and 1951 Long serv and Good Conduct. I attach a sheet that maybe someone can tell me more about. Any help much appreciated.

Do you know where he was married and to whom, also what about the 1939 register although if he was in the forces he most likely won't be listed but his wife might be

It doesn’t have a date of birth, but have you seen at National  Archives the document detailing the reason he was awarded the MBE

And here are the instructions for getting records. https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records

On your other thread you give the important information that the marriage was in Norwich and that his father was another Alfred King, a food and meat inspector:

So did he marry Lily F Slater, Dec qtr 1935 Norwich, and have you traced her in 1939 or at death?  How old was the bride at marriage, and what was her middle name?

The other possible marriage is that of Alfred F King to Stella E Mace, Mar qtr 1935 Norwich, but since you haven’t mentioned a middle name for your Alfred presumably that is not the relevant couple.

Thank you everyone for your replies.
I have just come home to an email from the Chelsea Pensioners who have found him, given me a date of birth and death and, for a small fee, are sending me copies of their records including a uniformed photo. I am delighted but thank you all for always trying so hard to help.
