RUSSELL, RICHARD, age 31
GRO Reference: 1840  D Quarter in SELBY  Volume 23  Page 384

Hi

Thank you very much for your efforts so far.

Yes, it does look like Richard dies.

In my original post ...
1851 Admon record for Richard Russell, record says he was a widower and reference to Wm Dunhill.

There are bits & pieces posted here ...

BUT Richard Russell, a widower in 1851 (Admon) cannot be the same Richard Russell who dies in 1840  :-\

AND, you now have two threads pursuing the same people  :-\
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

He could be, if there was a delay in applying for letters of administration,  but we are not told enough about that.

it would have been helpful if the Russell material from the other thread had been provided at the outset, so that we did not spend time finding material which was already known.

Hello

I am sorry not to have put the link on straight away.

Regarding another thread, I specifically wanted to ask the Niece question.

Added: I have not seen & don't have the actual Administration.

Thank you, Mark

So:  possible timeline:

1835 - Richard Russell and Mary Turner marry at Selby.
1836 - Rebecca Russell - baptised at Selby, daughter of Richard and Mary
1838 - Elizabeth Russell - baptised at Selby, daughter of Richard and Mary
1838 - Mary Russell - burial at Selby, aged 26 - GRO says 25.
1840 - Richard Russell buried - Selby, aged 30 - GRO says 31
1849 - Mary Russell buried - 15 months, youngest daughter of Mrs Russell of Selby, no birth registration ??
1851 - Administration - Richard Russell, widower of Selby.  Not sure where you have seen William Dunhill connection  :-\

So we are still looking for a connection between William Dunhill and Richard Russell.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hi Bumblebee

Thank you.

Here is the Administration Listing (indexed by TNA, Kew as 1851) ...

RUSSELL Rich'd, Wm DUNHILL, Barlby Bank, Selby, PC York, Vol. 2, Folio 343.

There was a Ship Owner, Wm DUNHILL, at Barlby Bank (a mention from newspaper in my original posting.

I have not reduced image, to make it clear to read.

Hello

Your Admin entry confirms Richard RUSSELL to be a Widower.

In December 1840 Wm DUNHILL, Esq., of Barlby Bank, Selby, has had a new Schooner built and she was named "Harriet". Almost certainly to be named by the owner after a family member, Wife or Daughter, etc.
