RHODES
« on: Friday 11 May 18 11:27 BST (UK) »
I found this picture at a flee market in Antwerp.

On the picture :
L.W. Rhodes
Brit Tank Troop W/S
R.E.M.E. B.L.A.

Has anyone has any idea how I can get more information about him.  I am fascinated by the story of a picture that travelled from the Brit Tank Troop to Antwerp.

He was a Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Craftsman (Cfn before his initials).  The W/S stands for workshops, the REME attachment to many regiments.  His unit is not conventionally written, the "Brit" in quotes not a proper title.  Probably 821 Armoured Troops Workshop REME.

BLA British Liberation Army - the allies in NW Europe.

Antwerp - the war diary may show the unit ended in Antwerp and he went along to have his photo taken.  Remainder - guesswork!

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

So he is not LW Rhodes - just W which is presumably William as he signs himself Bill

What's on the other side of the postcard?

The way he phrases his note suggests a farewell to a girl he has met in or about Antwerp when it was liberated in September 1944, perhaps as his unit continues on into Germany.

I thought also it was a farewell cart.  As I am living in Belgium I am trying to find out if they have met after thé war.  I know it is nearly impossible but who knows😀 .
Both side of the cart are attached.
