Wallace family Alnwick
« on: Friday 11 May 18 14:29 BST (UK) »
Looking for Charles William (or similar) Wallace born in or near to Alnwick, Northumberland, England 1860 or 1861. He died in South Africa in June 1940. Occupation - miner and a soldier in the Boer War. He still had family in the Alnwick area when he died in Cape Town in 1940. Some of his children's names were John, William, Thomas and Charles William. I would be delighted to hear from you if you have any information regarding this family.

Welcome to Rootschat, Jedwall.

Are you sure he was born in that area?

Do you know his parents' names?

What do you mean by (or similar)?

Yes, that's definitely his death certificate and his son's Charles William Wallace's death certificate. Snr's wife is correct, Hester Helena Ellis and I don't know when they were married. Other children's names are Lily, John, William, Thomas, Jean, Helen Maude. CWW is my grandfather - and my father, John said that his father came from Alnwick, Northumberland. CWW Snr lived in Cape Town for many years and was married before Helena and possibly two children, William and another son/daughter? with previous wife. He possibly travelled to South Africa 1880 to 1900 and was said to have fought in the Boer War. His family in England is the missing link.

The first child of his second marriage to Hester Helena Ellis is born in Cape Province in 1902, Helen Maude, the second is Lily Helena born 1903. I don't know anything about the first marriage - names, where or when. Thank you for the welcome and the help with the search.

This appears to be an enquiry about the same man, although it says he died in 1953 :-\
It states that he married Hester Ellis

It is the same man and the enquiry was an earlier one with an error in the date of death before the  correct date was found: 5th June 1940 in Cape Town.
