Rebecca Dodman bet: 1808-1815 Baptism
« on: Friday 11 May 18 22:26 BST (UK) »
Greetings one and all.

I am on the hunt for Rebecca Dodman.  Daughter of Joseph Dodman and his wife Rebecca formerly Watson.

Joseph and Rebecca were married in Kings Lynn 16 Aug 1807 at St Nicholas.

They had a daughter Rebecca between their marriage and 1811.

In 1811 there was a daughter called Ann born and christened in Broad Street, Independent formerly Prestbyterian, Kings Lynn, Norfolk.

Rebecca later married James Nicholls in Surrey in 1835.
the 1841 census gives her age as 30
She died in Sep 1849 aged 39

1849-39 = 1810

I have looked on Ancestry, FindMyPast, Freereg and Familysearch - All drawn a blank.

All help gratefully received.

Joseph Dodman is a Chandler address High Street Kings Lynn per baptism of Emma, see below
Marriage witness's are William Hill and Mary Hill, her middle initial could be M,N or W difficult to read.
They married by license if it still exist it may give more information.

Ann born in 1811, then there is a 10 year gap till Emma born 6 Feb 1821 and baptized Kings Lynn, St Margaret (C of E) 7 March 1821
Then Eliza born 18 March 1823 bap 1 September 1823 St Olave's  Southwark

I would do a wider search than Norfolk, it would appear he moved around between 1811 and 1821 changing from Independent Church to Church of England. Then onto Southwark between 1821 and 1823

1851 census Rebecca Dodman now 71 states she was born Whitby/Whitley? Yorkshire
daughter Eliza is 28 born Southwark
Ann Nichols 11 born Newington is also with them. (the second daughter of James Nichols and Rebecca Dodman)
Rebecca Dodman died 31 July 1861 and was buried 7 August 1861.

Thanks amondg
I've added a few notes in blue.

Joseph Dodman is a Chandler address High Street Kings Lynn per baptism of Emma, see below
Marriage witness's are William Hill and Mary Hill, her middle initial could be M,N or W difficult to read.
They married by license if it still exist it may give more information.I have Joseph Dodman and Rebecca Watson (formerly Watson/Brown) marriage info 1807. Rebecca Watson/Brown was born in Whitby North Yorkshire and I have her baptism.

Then onto Southwark between 1821 and 1823 I have checked all the local parishes and a many in between including a national search too.

1851 census Rebecca Dodman now 71 states she was born Whitby/Whitley? Yorkshire Whitby, I have this baptism and her siblings.
daughter Eliza is 28 born Southwark
Ann Nichols 11 born Newington is also with them. (the second daughter of James Nichols and Rebecca Dodman)
Rebecca Dodman died 31 July 1861 and was buried 7 August 1861.

Joseph was born in Northwold, Norfolk. I have checked this parish and thos in between.

I was hoping someone might know other resources that I haven't managed to find yet.

Thanks again  :)

Well that's thrown the Felis catus amongst the Columbidae ! !

Firstly Thanks Yorkslass ... Rebecca Watson was formerly Rebecca Brown of Whitby. She married John Watson in Whitby 04/01/1802 in St Mary's.

Now somewhere between their marriage 1802 and 1807 she moved to Kings Lynn. Now John Watson is on the marriage as a Sailor. I have been forced to assume that John must have died at sea or such like as I have failed to find a death/burial for him.

According to the marriage licence Rebecca is a widow (12th August 1807)

When I saw this I thought maybe Rebecca (junior) may have been young child but when she died in 1849 she was 39 years old.

Could Rebecca be the daughter of John Watson ?

We've always thought of her as the daughter of Joseph Dodman.  ???

Thanks amondg.

It's strange as she was married to Joseph Dodman in 1807.

I took it to be a clarification of who her parents are.
At the time of her birth she was daughter of John and Rebecca Watson of Whitby.

Although her mother is now Mrs. Joseph Dodman of Kings Lynn.
