Road from baptism
« on: Saturday 12 May 18 10:19 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Baptism in question is Helen Beagley, baptised in 1827 in Kensington. Address gives two things, looks like Stafford Street and New Road. Have I misread? Can anyone locate this/these street/streets?

Thanks,

Adam

Thanks. But what does it mean? Was Stafford Street a new road? Or did the two mean one street? Anyhow, it doesn't appear to be a street today.

There was extensive street re-naming in London in Victorian times and later.

There's a former Stafford Street in Marylebone, where Helen always gave as her p.o.b. on censuses. This isn't far from where she was christened in Kensington so that makes sense. Thanks!

It means that Stafford Street was in the vicinity of New Road (which became Marylebone Road).

You can see Stafford Street towards the bottom of this 1837 map, opposite the Yorkshire Stingo, on the red line http://mapco.net/cary1837/cary17b.htm
