Thank you very much guys for your knowledge on this. We have another photo of a family member who we thought was in the army wearing the same uniform as this, so turns out we are probably mistaken about him, and he was actually in the RAF.

I really enjoy reading about memories that you guys have, so thank you John and Henry.

No prob, Shaun.

That lad will now be in his eighties, if he's still around.  After squarebashing, I wore a cap like his (2nd hand, bought in a shop for a shilling, because I hated the beret I was issued with) so the photo brought back memories - of 1952.
