Just wondering if this was Bridgend (Perth) by any chance?

Annie

Yes, we believe it to be Perth.

Which parish is this?

The child's name is indeed hidden in the dark part of the page and "ane" is = "a". The word after "gatherit unto ye" is probably "puir" or a version of it - i.e. the poor who would eventually receive the collection.

The witnesses seem to be "in ye Ferry". If we knew the parish, it might suggest a possible location.

Hi there,
Thank you for the further translation/reading.
We believe the record to be from Perth.

Agree Skoosh!

There's a Barnhill (Dundee) i.e. Ferry could relate to Broughty Ferry?

I'm unable to find a place near Bridgend in Perth named Ferry although it may have existed but now named something else.

Where was the Baptismal doc. from, which church?

I couldn't see an entry on SP hence my question.

Pardon Skoosh? I'm posting all information I have. More information is coming out by the hour so add it. Apologies if this isn't enough for you. Thanks for your worthwhile contribution anyway.

Annie

Hi Annie,
My cousin found the record in The National Records Office so I don't know a lot about it. We tried reading it ourselves and were having no luck and a Facebook group suggested posting it here.
I only know from the first translator that it said Barnhill Bridgend and I found a Barnhill in Perth. The family we are looking for is SANDS and by the time we know them (in the 1700s) they have land at the Port of Menteith.
Attached is the top of the record which is the only other information I have.
Hope that helps.

The record you posted is not from Perth...

It's one I found earlier for Monifieth which is in Angus

SANDS PATRE... SANDS/
U
18/10/1579
310/10 87
Monifieth

Which I was discounting as I was looking for a Perth entry.

The 'U' above signifies the child was of unknown sex, strangely?

Annie

Add...I forgot to mention the reference to 'Ferry' is now likely to have been Broughty Ferry as I suggested earlier?

Distance from Monifieth to Broughty Ferry is less than 3 miles.
