Back from my travels!  Had a look at the gaps, RT, and I think on the 15th it is 'Percy and Arthur'.  On the 20th the gap could be either "Benns fairly bad" or "Been fairly bad".  She is pretty good with her vowels, so I am inclined to go for the former.  What do you think?

On the 1st Dec I think it says "Meet M. Coventry Street Corner H(ouse) 1.5."  Surely this can't be Maurice still lurking in the undergrowth?

I think you may be right GS. Here is a link to several pictures of the Lyons Corner House at the junction of Coventry street and Rupert Street in Piccadilly, including one in the 1930's.

GS

Think you're right about Arthur and Benns.

As to the 1st December, I thought 'St' was abbreviation for 'Strand'.  Having another look I can see 'M', so going with your view, but I suppose the 'M' could refer to Madge.  We'll have to wait and see if Maurice has returned!

What an interesting link, LS.  I can remember my mother talking about Lyons' Corner Houses, I think they were very fashionable in their day.

RT, I agree the M could refer to Madge; let's hope so because she's far less trouble than Maurice!
