How to find really old info?
« on: Monday 14 May 18 03:51 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to make an in depth family tree and I've run in to some trouble at my 8th Grandfather.
The only Information i can Find is his marriage record. (excluding records about his children)

Charles Harber Married 25th January 1727 in Fillongley, Warwick, England to Mary.

Any pointers or help would be welcome.

According to this, records for the church are available via FamilySearch:
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Fillongley,_Warwickshire_Genealogy#Church_records
(presuming Charles was from Fillongley) :-\

What was Mary's surname?
Do you have more information about her - her birth or baptism for example? Was she from Fillongley?

It might be useful for anyone willing to help you, if you can provide names, dates and places of births of their children.

My first thought is that surname .... have you looked for him using spelling variations such as Harper?

I think it's hit a point where there is a spelling variation for sure... Don't know much at all about Mary.

I have the info on my ancestor William though. (the son of Charles and Mary)

William Harber born 20 march 1728 in Fillongley, Warwick, England

Married to Martha "Barnes" Harber. Martha is his second wife though. Sarah was his first, she has nothing to do with me.

Good find Pat. By asking about Mary I was hoping to get a picture of the family and find out where Charles was born. Google tells me that Baxterley and Fillongley are about 7-8 miles apart.

It might be worth checking other Harbers/Harpers in the area in case you find a family that Charles might fit in with. It is not unknown for a child's baptism to be missing when his siblings can be found.

If you have all of the baptisms of Charles and Mary's children, do any of them give any clues as to the origins of Charles? (you might need to check the originals if possible)

Yes great information guys thanks a bunch. Mary Hubbart is correct. i just thought it was a spelling error because of how close it is to Harber. is it common for last names to change slightly? His son William went by Harber.

i'm pretty sure William had siblings. I only have the direct line from me to William though. no siblings were ever written down save for mine and my fathers.
