Dear Sister
Just a few lines to let you know that I have recieved your kind and welcome letter alright and was glad to see by it that you was well because it leaves me the same at present, We have gotten a terrible spell of the trenches this time we have been in 34 days and there is know signs of us coming out yet. We are getting very rotten weather just now but I hope it wont be long till we get change. You better not send a box to me till I write and tell you because I am getting plenty of cigarettes to buy at the canteen, I hope my father hasn’t to go long idle because there is nothing coming into the house but his wages. You can tell Joe and Margaret Jane that I am asking for them and also the rest of his family. Well out all the news at present from your Brother Willie write soon. Xxxxxxxxto Mary
