Research of ship’s log required at Kew
« on: Tuesday 15 May 18 11:48 BST (UK) »
Hi, is anyone able to do some research for me at Kew? I am trying to find out if the whaling ship Indispensible (correct spelling at the time) visited Norfolk Island between October 1806 and 19 June 1807.  The ship was sighted at Norfolk on 10 October 1806 by the ship Estramina, presumably the Indispensible's first landfall after it had sailed from England in May that year. There is no record of it at Norfolk Island again in the limited NSW/Norfolk records that are available, yet before 19 June 1807 the Indispensible had returned to deliver a woman to the island .  I am hoping there may be more information in the Estramina's log about the ship (ADM 51/1642) - the log only goes to 21 October 1806. Or there may be some information about the Indispensible in the log of HMS Porpoise which visited the island regularly from Sydney (ADM 52/3784 to 19 January 1807 AND ADM 52/4487 from 16 January 1807 on), as it was common practice for ships to report on other ships' movements. Any help would be much appreciated. (No log appears to have survived for this period for the Indispensible and the only information is limited mentions in Lloyds List).

Hi lithgowwood, I have just moved your post because it was posted in the completed section.

You are best just to type the details of what your request is?

Yes - please be specific as there are people doing this all the time.  In fact I have someone doing it at the moment.
Bazalgette, but mainly not FH information.
Has written a biography of Jean Louis Bazalgette - "Prinny's Taylor"
