Martha & Mary Crossland Cheshire/Lancashire/West Yorkshire 1830s
« on: Tuesday 15 May 18 12:27 BST (UK) »
I am looking for baptism records for these two ladies to no avail
Their parents, John Crossland & Ellen Peers, married 1831 Prestwich (nr Manchester), John was from Oldham at that time but was born in Silkstone/Cumberworth West Yorkshire. Ellen was from Prestwich but biorn in Manchester
By 1841 the family are living in Dukinfield and later censuses show Martha and Mary were born there. They both married on the same day in 1866 at St Johns Dukinfield and by 1871 are living next door to each other in South Bank Middlesbrough
I cannot find a baptism for either of these two in any of the usual places, searching over all three potential counties.
Any help or advice on useful sites would be very much appreciated

The Lancs OPC site has a baptism 26 October 1834 for a Mary Crossland baptised St Michael and All Angels, Ashton under Lyne, daughter of John Crossland and Helen of Stalybridge. John's occupation is Warehouseman.

Can't find anything for Martha.

Thank you Emeltom, now why couldn't I find that! There is also Benjamin 10th November 1844 with father John book keeper Stalybridge mother Ellen which ties in nicely with census returns. Mary is the direct line ancestor, so I can live without Martha!

Suzard, thank you. I had found the baptism, following emeltom's lead but not the corresponding burial which also helps to confirm the family :)

So I have just found Martha's baptism on Ancetry BTs for Ashton under Lyne by trawling through each image for the period. She was transcribed as Martha Coopland! 1834 baptisms for Ashton under Lyne seem to missing on Ancestry. Can anyone confirm this gap in records? Mary's baptism is on Lancs OPC as a parish record so I had hoped to find the digital image on Ancestry. Any ideas on where to look next?
