Elizabeth Scylla Riley Lord
« on: Tuesday 15 May 18 14:46 BST (UK) »
I am seeking information on Elizabeth Scylla Riley Lord born 1915 in Tynemouth and died December 1998 in Darlington. In WW2 she was a member of the Red Cross and was a V.A.D. nurse and arrived in Liverpool from Bombay on 01/05/1946 on the ship Georgic with a UK address of Newbus Grange, Neasham, Nr. Darlington. I have no idea as to when she went to India and where she worked. However, I have now discovered she was awarded an MBE and was also a JP. I would be interested to learn more about what she did to be awarded an MBE and also how she became a JP. Also, does anyone have knowledge of where she is buried? Also, any other information in respect of family would be welcomed.

This is a foreword that she wrote for a book called "I Did It All - My Way" - looks like it was written in 1987.

http://www.ndchs.org.uk/I%20did%20it%20my%20way.pdf

Foreword by Miss Scylla Riley-Lord O.B.E., J.P.
This is the story of a full, interesting and well spent life.
Throughout there runs a golden thread of concern for the well-being of
others.
His splendid service with the Grenadier Guards and the Police Service is
held in very high respect.
I am delighted to be able to write this foreword and hope that the people
who read it will be inspired by the way Bob Waterworth “Did it his
way”
With all good wishes
Scylla Riley Lord
Author’s note:
Miss Riley Lord was the daughter of the late Captain Riley Lord who
was the first President of the Northumbria Branch of the Grenadier
Guards Comrades Association on it’s formation in 1926 and until his
death in 1963. She has been a loyal supporter of branch affairs since
1926 and we regard her as a Grenadier in all but having no regimental
number.
She was honoured with the appointment as High Sherriff of Durham
County in the period March 1974 to March 1975.
