GenUKI says:

St Ann, Rainhill (C of E)
St Bartholemew, Rainhill (Roman Catholic)

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/Rainhill

However, Rainhill was just a chapelry of Prescot Parish. So, maybe:

St Mary, Prescot (C of E)
Ebenezer, Prescot (Independent)
Houghton Street, Prescot (Wesleyan Methodist)
Atherton St, Prescot (Unitarian)
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

I think you'll find that Rainhill is in the parish of Prescot not Preston. I can't find a church called Rain Hill in Preston. Have you checked the Censuses to see where he was living before his death?

The only death I can find on the GRO site for a Henry Purvis in 1863 is

Henry Purvis Jun 1863 Prescot 8b 407 aged 42

The Lancs OPC has Prescot burials covering the year 1863 and they don't have an entry for a Henry Purvis. There is church in Rainhill itself which is St Ann in View Road.

Thanks for the help guys, sorry thought small hand writing said Preston.  Had a look and 1861 census puts him in st Anne's church area so that's probably my best bet, thanks again.

Lancashire Online Parish Clerks (LAN OPC) and Lancashire pages of GEN UKI websites are easiest places to check for location of churches in Lancashire.
