Hoping.
« on: Friday 18 May 18 22:11 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I recently did a My Ancestry dna test and it showed 52 % Celt.

I know my father was southern Irish and that is all I know  :(

Is there a test that can give me more info  ?

Tia,    John

You'd need to find out his name and then try searching Civil reg etc for Marriage..... If born 1916  or before then Birth Cert
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

There is not a chance of finding any info at all.
My mother was born and raised in Somerset, moved to London in 1955 to become a nurse. She was single and managed to get pregnant by a blue eyed Irishman in 59.That was the only time she saw him and if she ever knew his name, she never told me.

So my only hope is to find 1st cousin dna matches. I'm more interested to find a physical place of origin than searching for him.

Than all you can do is upload your RAW DNA to as many of the Genealogy DNA sites as possibly and hope to get 1st or 2nd cousin matches ever 3rd could narrow down to an area.
Have you tried to contact your closest matches on Ancestry?

Keep in mind your number of matches will increase as more people are tested.

So far, I have only had the test and the closest are 5th cousins. To progress, I have to buy 1 yr subscription.

The one I used was My Heritage

I have mine on My Heritage and I also don't have a subscription but can see or contact matches so I don't understand why you would need a subscription.
You can down load the Raw DNA and upload it to other sites, not sure if you can upload to Ancestry but there are others out there.

The best matches I have so far are one at .2 %.  First cousin twice removed, 2nd cousin twice removed. The next 3 are 5th. Thats it so far after 6 weeks.

I downloaded my RAW DNA file this morning, then found Family Tree dna to upload it to , now I have to wait until tomorrow to do this (24 hrs between downloads)  because it can only be loaded through the site and not as a file.

If you haven't done so already, you can upload your raw data to gedmatch.com, which is a free site.
