2% should be a relatively close relative.  They may be a relative from your mother's side.

Late last year I helped a man who shared 2% of his DNA with one of my parents to find his birth family.  They share 2.1% (154.6‎ cM), Shared segments 7, Largest segment 47.9‎ cM

Now that we've worked it out we know he is my third cousin.  It was just before Christmas that we worked out who his paternal grandparents must have been.  He originally tested at Ancestry and gave me access to his account.  Later he uploaded to Gedmatch, MyHeritage and FamilyTreeDNA.

Yes, I realise it's the paternal side you're hunting.  Maternal matches are still useful though for eliminating matches.
