POW WWII Records
« on: Monday 21 May 18 09:01 BST (UK) »
Hi There

I have found three POW records on FindMyPast of J V Elliott, service number 37015. I do not have a subscription to this site, would I find these records elsewhere? Inquiring first before I pay to get the months subscription.

Regards

What data set was this? Was it "Prisoners Of War 1715-1945"?

FindMyPast has this to say about the data set:
This collection of records from The National Archives includes papers from the Foreign Office, War Office, State papers, Colonial Office, Admiralty and Air Force.
The latest records contain the names of thousands of prisoners in camps throughout Europe and Asia during the Second World War.

So, you could search TNA?
Or simply pay the £12.95 for a month's access.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Yes, You have the right collection. My research and sourcing skills are rusty. I didn't even think to look at where the records came from. I will go and look at TNA and if I don't locate the records, I'll go through FindMyPast.

Thanks

Hi iluleah

I did find his army record is on this site but not his POW records on here. A good resource to keep for future reference though.

Thank you

https://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/ also have POW records

This site has had a bit of a bad rap here on rootschat. Put "Forces War Records" into the search box - you should find a few threads which mention them. They are generally not well thought of, so advisable not to pay for a subscription to their site without doing your research first.

The entries on F M P are just lists of prisoners of war and give very little information -
Camp No.
POW No.
Name
Rank
Army No

WW2 service records are still with the MOD and not available on 'Forces War records'
