Usually when a married surname is indicated there is also a date on which the marriage took place.

This is not always the case - the date next to my mother's married-name-to-be was 18.3.46 but she married my father 31 Dec 1945.

I believe the date is when the adjustment was made to the register

Just checked another 3 of mine and they show the exact marriage date...... ???

I had a look at my mother's entry and realised that although the month and year were correct the actual date was 16 days after the marriage date.

So don't quite know why some are accurate and others not quite so.   ???

The only one in my family that I know exact marriage date of and is legible is about 14 days out, month and day are wrong.  My mothers has not been noted and another aunts is illegible due to sellotape discolouring.  ::)

It looks as though, like the birth dates these amendment dates are not reliable for being actual date of event.
