Hi - I am wondering if anyone could advise if there are any resources at all that could be explored where have a birth record showing an illegitimate child - to try and find the father. I have Robert Platt Hay born 20th Feb 1874 in Lesmahagow to Elizabeth Platt. (Birth record speclling as Robert Pleat and Elizabeth).
In researching the family I can see that Elizabeth has other illegitimate children and one birth record has a Register of Corrected entries noted - which shows a court summary naming the father of that child... I am hoping there may be some resources I can check with regards Robert Platt Hay?
Does Anyone have any advice? ideas?

There is a Robert Hay, in the 1871 census living in Kirkfieldbank, Lesmahagow, age 24 and single. It's possible the child was given the father's name, and so he may be the one.

If Elizabeth applied for Poor Relief to help her bring up her children, the father(s) may be named.  The Poor Law records for Lesmahagow are in the Mitchell Library in Glasgow.

Also check Robert's marriage and death records to see if a "reputed father" is named.

I checked the marriage and death certificates and states illegitimate so no further records there - they moved to England and he became a police officer so I will try and see if there are any records that end - thanks for the ideas - I will be following up on these and hope they bear fruit!.
